Packing a print to travel

Why we send prints flat, what goes in the box, and what to do when it arrives.

Rolling a print is cheaper to post, but cotton paper remembers being rolled, and a print that has spent a week in a tube never quite lies flat in a frame. So every print we send travels flat.

What is in the box

Inside the outer box are two sheets of rigid board, a little larger than the print. Between them is the print in an acid-free sleeve, with the certificate in its own envelope on top. Corners are protected with card, and the whole sandwich is taped so it cannot slide.

When it arrives

Open the box on a clean table. Hold the print by its white border, ideally with cotton gloves, and keep it in its sleeve until it goes to the framer. If it is a framed print, peel the protective film off the acrylic only once it is on the wall.
