Certificates of authenticity

Every print is sent with a certificate signed by the artist and the printer, and recorded in our edition ledger.

What it says

The certificate is printed on heavy cotton card. It gives the title of the work, the artist, the year, the edition number and the size of the edition (for example 19/50), the image size, the paper, the inks and the date of printing. The artist and the printer sign it by hand.

Where the number is

The same number is written three times: on the front margin of the print in the artist’s pencil, on the back of the print, and on the certificate. All three must match.

The ledger

We keep a ledger of every edition. Each line holds a number, the date it was printed and signed, and the name of the first buyer. A cancelled number (a damaged or returned print) is recorded as cancelled and never reused. The artist has a copy of the ledger for their own editions.

Artist’s proofs

Some editions have one or two artist’s proofs, marked AP instead of a number. They are kept by the artist and the studio and are not for sale; they do not count towards the edition.

A lost certificate

Write to us with the title and the number on the back of the print. We check it against the ledger and issue a replacement once, marked as a duplicate.
