How we number an edition
Why every size has its own edition, why you get the next number, and what happens to a returned print.

An edition is a promise about how many prints will ever exist. Ours are set per size: Lake in Fog has 50 small, 25 medium and 10 large prints, and those numbers were agreed with Maren Holt before the first one was made.
You get the next number
Prints are numbered in the order they are bought. The counter on each print page says how many are left and which number yours will carry, and that is the number the artist writes on it. We do not let buyers choose numbers: low numbers are not better prints, and picking them out leaves gaps that make the ledger harder to trust.
Returned and damaged prints
If a print is returned in perfect condition, it is offered again with its own number. If it is damaged, it is destroyed and the number is recorded as cancelled. In neither case is a new print made to take its place.
Closed means closed
When the last number in a size is sold, that edition is closed. We keep the page up, marked as closed, so owners can find the details of their print. We never reprint a closed edition in a new size.
